Lewys joined Cathedral Chambers as a tenant in January 2020 after successful completion of his pupillage under the supervision of Christine Abbott.

Lewys has already started to develop a busy family practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ practice, including public law, private law and matrimonial finance.

In public law proceedings, Lewys acts for Local Authorities, parents, guardians and other intervening parties from the initial stages of proceedings, through to contested final hearings. In private law proceedings, Lewys is regularly instructed in Section. 8 applications, specific issue applications, prohibitive steps applications and applications for injunctions under the Family Law Act 1996. Lewys undertakes hearings from the First Hearing Dispute Resolution Appointments, through to Finding’s of Fact and contested Final Hearings.

In matters of matrimonial finance, Lewys deals with all aspects and stages of family finance, including Maintenance Pending Suit, Financial Dispute Resolution Hearings, Final Hearings and costs.

Lewys has an approachable yet firm approach

Prior to obtaining pupillage, Lewys completed a law degree at Aberystwyth University, where he completed an Erasmus year at Utrecht University studying modules including children’s rights and juvenile justice. Lewys then went on to complete the Bar Professional Training Course at Cardiff University, before working as a paralegal in wealth management at a large national law firm; and as a paralegal dealing with family law work at high street law firms in North Wales and South Wales.

As a fluent Welsh speaker, Lewys has completed the ‘Advocacy in Welsh’ course and accepts instructions to undertake hearings, conferences and provide advice through the medium of Welsh.
